Manthan Yuva Sansthan launched a groundbreaking project in Shekhpura, Bihar, aimed at promoting gender equality through Panchayat empowerment. This transformative initiative covered 45 Panchayats in Shekhpura district, impacting 210 villages. Initially, Panchayats faced gender-related challenges, insufficient integration of sustainable development goals, and limited gender-sensitive policies, resulting in minimal involvement of women and marginalized groups in decision-making.
The project tackled these issues by providing training programs for elected representatives, Panchayat officials, and community members on gender sensitivity, women's rights, and the importance of inclusivity in local governance. They also learned to align Gram Panchayat Development Plans with SDGs, making the connection between local development and global sustainability. Notably, gender-responsive GPDPs were developed, fostering inclusivity. The initiative emphasized women's empowerment through self-help groups, which led to financial independence and active participation in decision-making. Community engagement and awareness campaigns addressed gender-based issues, resulting in increased women and girls' involvement in local governance, improved access to gender-responsive services, heightened gender sensitivity, and recognition of several Panchayats as "Model Panchayats."
The "Oil Production Center" initiative in Kawakhap Village, led by the Lohardaga district administration in partnership with Manthan Yuva Sansthan, is a transformative project. Its main goal is to empower the local tribal community, especially women, by teaching them modern methods to produce organic mustard oil.
Previously, the Kawakhap community grew mustard for personal use, but outdated farming techniques left them trapped in poverty. Recognizing this, our project provided training and resources to make mustard farming a sustainable livelihood.
Manthan Yuva Sansthan established a dedicated facility with modern equipment for oil production. This facility has helped turn mustard farming into a flourishing occupation. We formed a cooperative of 60 tribal women who receive top-quality mustard seeds and training on operating the machinery.
They cultivate organic mustard using sustainable, pesticide-free methods, ensuring high-quality, chemical-free oil. Our cooperative's commitment to quality and sustainability stands out in a market filled with chemically treated alternatives.
We've also created market connections, allowing this premium, organic mustard oil to reach a wider audience.
Collectively, these efforts have had a significant impact on the lives of the local community, fostering economic empowerment, promoting sustainable practices, enhancing gender equality, and preserving the environment through organic farming. This has not only improved their economic status but also instilled a sense of ownership and pride in their efforts.
In collaboration with the UNDP, Manthan Yuva Sansthan has launched a groundbreaking program called "21st Century Skills Training" aimed at uplifting marginalized communities in two blocks of the Bokaro district: Gomia and Bermo, located near abandoned coal mines. This program aims to bridge the gap between traditional education and the modern job market.
It focuses on empowering marginalized youth and aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) like reducing poverty, providing quality education, promoting gender equality, creating decent work opportunities, and reducing inequalities.
The initiative offers a 30-hour training curriculum to 200 participants from two blocks that lacked essential job skills and technological know-how. The training is interactive and engaging, covering vital skills like communication, digital literacy, and interview techniques. In just six days, it has a profound impact, transforming the lives of participants.
They learn to confidently handle interviews, emails, and resume writing. They also gain essential knowledge about LinkedIn and crafting effective resumes. As a result, they're better prepared for the competitive job market and can secure positions that match their dreams. This initiative is making a real difference in these two blocks by empowering marginalized communities with essential skills and improving job opportunities. It's all about bringing hope and lasting positive change to those who need it most.
Discover the Bamboo Handicraft Revolution! In February 2023, the Manthan Yuva Sansthan Ranchi, in partnership with the Lohardaga district administration, embarked on a remarkable journey in Barnag village. Our mission: to empower the Turi community, especially women, through the art of bamboo handicrafts. Barnag, nestled in the Kharki panchayat of the Kisko block, has a rich history of bamboo craftsmanship, but traditional methods held them back.
We've set out to change that. The 'Establishment of the Bamboo Handicraft Industry' project introduces modern techniques, offers training, and provides essential materials. We're crafting more than just beautiful bamboo products; we're crafting a brighter future, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
In February 2023, we launched a bamboo handicraft training program, where 60 eager participants learned new skills, enhanced their existing ones, and harnessed modern tools for efficiency. From table lamps to bamboo jewelry, they're creating wonders!
The success stories are inspiring - at the Bangla Fair in Ranchi, visitors loved their bamboo crafts, and at the Lohardaga Fair, they caught the eye of notable guests, promising a bright future.
The TRIFED Artisans Empowerment Fair was held at the Gumla District Town Hall on July 1st, 2023. Our talented Turi artisans showcased their exquisite bamboo creations at the Fair. The event, graced by Mr. Sushant Gaurav, Deputy Commissioner of Gumla, emphasized preserving traditional craftsmanship and empowering local artisans.
During the fair, TRIFED demonstrated a keen interest in two of our products: the bamboo tray and the mobile stand. Subsequently, both of these products were officially empanelled by TRIFED.
This significant recognition not only served as a morale booster for our skilled artisans but also expanded market exposure, motivating our artisans, and contributing to economic empowerment.
This remarkable journey not only supports our "Establishment of Bamboo Handicraft Industry" project but also fosters the rich cultural heritage of the Turi community.
Join us in celebrating the Turi artisans' exceptional talent and the resilience of traditional handicrafts, as we continue to create economic opportunities and preserve these invaluable skills.
In honor of International Women's Day 2023, Manthan Yuva Sansthan partnered with Vishwa Yuvak Kendra to champion women's empowerment and gender equality. This initiative, in line with the UN's "DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality" theme, aimed to amplify women's voices in the digital world. It worked towards bridging the gender gap by promoting gender-responsive innovation and digital education, enabling women to participate equally in economic, political, social, and cultural domains.
From February 22 to 27, 2023, activities were organized at the grassroots level in India, including awareness rallies, creative poster-making, sensitization sessions, street plays, and documentary screenings to address gender disparities. It brought together technologists, innovators, entrepreneurs, and gender equality activists to discuss their roles in advancing gender equality. This event spotlighted women entrepreneurs' ideas and experiences, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts to ensure equal opportunities for all, especially in the digital world.
The initiative tackled the issue of women's limited access to technology and the internet, which contributes to economic and social disparities. By celebrating women's historical contributions and fostering gender equality, this event marked a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and innovative society where all women and girls can thrive and be respected.
